Here are some old photographs I took around 1984 which I believe to be Morecambe West End Pier. It looked like it had been on fire and was closed off and very run down as you can see.

These are all taken from 2 photo's but as it was a dull day, the depth of field is not very good (or bits of it are blurred in other words !)

Hello

I went on a North Wales Coastal trip on Sunday 12 October 08 and had a look at Ffrith Festival Gardens. The former Pepsi Loop is not yet up and running but the Waltzers were, but with no music!

The next stop was Colwyn Bay where I took some pictures of the pier which really needs some urgent attention, especially since the new owner has gone bankrupt recently due to money owed to the highly helpful local council !

This coaster looks remarkably like the Jetstream which would explain why they never bought the rusty one from Ocean beach.

On the way back I noticed this sign at Towyn funfair. It is the sign from Ocean Beach which was originally on the Water chute.

This coaster looks remarkably like the Jetstream which would explain why they never bought the rusty one from Ocean beach.

Quote:Bill Malcolm, 61, was told to "remove it on health and safety grounds" by the local council, which owns the allotments.

He erected the deterrent after thieves struck three times in four months, stealing more than £300 worth of spades, forks, hoes and wrecking his potato patch in the process.

But officials instructed Mr Malcolm to remove the waist-high wire from his plot at Round Hill Allotments in Marlbrook, Worcs.

He said: "It's an absolutely ridiculous situation, all I wanted was to protect my property but the wire had to go in case a thief scratched himself.

"The council said they were unhappy about the precautions I had made but my response was to tell them that only someone climbing over on to my allotment could possibly hurt themselves.

"They shouldn't be trespassing in the first place but the council apologised and said they didn't want to be sued by a wounded thief.

"I told them to let the thief sue me so at least that way I would know who was breaking into my allotment but everything I said fell on deaf ears.

"It seems as though they are so wrapped up in red tape, they are unable to help me.

"The barbed wire was a single strand and ringing my property only. It was just three foot high and wasn't as though I'd dug a moat filled with piranha and erected six foot iron railings."

A spokesman for Bromsgrove District Council responded: "With regard to the barbed wire, when this is identified on site, we are obliged to request its removal or remove it on health and safety grounds to the general public, as this is a liability issue. This is a requirement enforced by our health and safety department."

She advised allotment tenants with security concerns to contact the local police.
There has been a furious backlash to Blackpool Pleasure Beach's controversial decision to introduce a £20 entrance fee.
Shocked tourism leaders, businesses and residents say the decision to charge visitors to enter the fun park will drive people away from the resort.
Blackpool's council leader today described the move as "an incredible decision" while 81 per cent of Gazette readers – who responded to our internet poll – said they would NOT pay the fee.
Denise Milburn, owner of the Napier Court Guest House, went as far as to say: "The £20 charges will cut the Pleasure Beach's own throats."

Pleasure Beach to charge £20 entrance fee

Throughout October the park – the UK's number one tourist attraction – will levy the charge on all entrants. Only children under one metre in height will be exempt. The fee allows entrants unlimited rides and a show, but many who visit the park are unhappy.

Hoteliers on Napier Avenue, which is a short walk from the fun park, said the charges would hit their takings hard during the vital October school half-term.
Mrs Milburn added: "It's expensive enough for families and to charge people who won't be even using the rides is a disgrace."

Pauline Bartlam, of the Harbour Hotel, said: "The Pleasure Beach charges will affect a lot of people."

Traders on Bond Street have also voiced concern. John Tsang, owner of the Golden Palace restaurant, said: "People who come here for two weeks will surely not be able to pay £20 every day they want to go in. I think it's a very bad decision."

The park has long been the most popular free tourist attraction in the UK, bringing in 5m visitors a year. But that title will be lost next year. From the beginning of the 2009 season visitors will have to either buy an Unlimited Ride Wristband or a £5 Freedom Pass to enter the park.

Pleasure Beach management has so far remained tight-lipped about the reasons behind the October fee and, despite several requests by The Gazette, say they were "too busy" to discuss the matter.

Blackpool Council leader, Coun Peter Callow said although the Pleasure Beach brought millions in visitors and revenue to the town, the town hall was powerless to intervene.

"I hesitate to criticise the Thompson family, they have done so much for the town," he said.
"But on this occasion it seems an incredible decision."
